Saturday, although there were clear skies it was very windy day. So windy in fact that that afternoon the massive tree in out front yard snapped at the base and fell into our neighbors house. I heard the snapping of the roots and looked out the front window as it fell while telling the kids to get out of the living room in fear that it was going to go right on top of our house.
Luckily a few roots held on so the tree was leaning against the house instead of falling to the ground.
About 2 hours later a guy came to asses the situation but clearly did not have the equipment to deal with a tree this large. They were able to get the lowest branches removed and then had to wait till morning to figure out what to do from there.
Sunday morning another guy was able to come and literally had to take the tree apart piece by piece. He arrived at 7:30 am and didn't get the trunk of the tree to the ground until 4:00 pm.
This guy was interesting and yet very patriotic! We had to laugh a little because he had this cigar is his mouth all day and it made it almost impossible to understand anything he was saying.
We were all so intrigued to see how he was going to get it down we ended up spending most of the day out there watching him. Avrey was not a huge fan of the chainsaw!
After 9 hours of slicing and dicing we have a large stump in the middle of the lawn and enough fire wood for at least 100 camp outs!! Although we will greatly miss the shade, we don't have air conditioning, we are so grateful that no one was hurt and there was very little damage done. From what we can see our neighbors rain cutter is the only thing that got damaged.
